20.10.2003 Poverty presents a threat to world security that affects each and every one of us, Director-General of UNESCO, Koïchiro Matsuura said in his message on the occasion of the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on October 17. Prioritising education, he added, could help bring about a more equitable social environment.

Putting girls first
17.10.2003 UNESCO Bangkok has facilitated the development of a toolkit for promoting gender equality in education in Asia. Its aim is to promote Goal 5 of the Dakar Framework for Action which calls for gender parity by 2005 and gender equality by 2015.
