06.12.2004 A Unesco-supported three-day conference in Marrakech has concluded that freedom of expression and press freedom are vital to creating a knowledge society under the WSIS framework. The conference was attended by more than 270 representatives of international and regional media groups, NGOs and academic institutions.

02.12.2004 Unesco, in cooperation with the government of Kenya and UNDP, has launched the Communication and Information Policy Framework for Kenya. The five-year project aims to strengthen the use of ICTs in Kenyan society and promote its use to build a transparent and accountable public sector in the country.

28.11.2004 UNESCO has brough out an Arabic version of its popular community radio manual to expand the reach of community media in the Arab region. The original version of this guide, 'How to do community radio', narrates the experience of its author Mr. Louie Tabing who was the project officer of 'Tambuli', one of the first community radio stations in Phillipines.

23.11.2004 The International Telecommunication Union is organising a Global Symposium for Regulators from 8–10 December 2004 in Geneva. Heads of national regulatory authorities from developed and developing countries will try to reach a consensus on the best way to achieve convergence and make access to ICTs affordable.

22.11.2004 Mongolia’s National Radio and Television Service struggles as it emerges out of 70 years of government control to become an independent public service broadcasting set-up. The network is being helped in the transition by Unesco and the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development.
