ITU: Strong commitments from heads of state for WSIS

16.09.2003 At the start of meetings in Geneva to finalize the agenda for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) announced that over 40 heads of state from around the world have committed to taking part in the summit.

Awards to celebrate best-practice youth ICT projects

12.09.2003 The Youth Creating Digital Opportunities Coalition (YCDO) and the Youth Caucus of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) are organising a WSIS Youth Awards Programme to celebrate and reward best-practice youth ICT projects. The awards are open to ICT projects of at least one year around the world that have significant youth involvement. Application deadline: 15 September 2003.

UN discusses strategic objectives of WSIS

06.08.2003 A delegation from Switzerland held meetings in New York recently to discuss the strategic objectives of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) with UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and his newly appointed Special Advisor for WSIS Nitin Desai.

Revised draft of WSIS declaration now available online

31.07.2003 The revised version of the Draft Declaration of Principles, to be presented at the forthcoming World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), was given final touches at the Intersessional Meeting held in Paris from 15 -18 July. The draft is now available online in Word and PDF formats.
