16.05.2003 Amb el lema Ajudar tots els pobles del món a comunicar-se, el Dia Mundial de les Telecomunicacions, el 17 de maig, reivindica enguany el dret de tothom a accedir a les noves tecnologies com a via per reduir la divisió digital i contribuir al desenvolupament, qüestions que centraran la primera fase de la Cimera Mundial sobre la Societat de la Informació que se celebra al desembre a Ginebra. En vistes a aquesta trobada, Digital Opportunity Channel de OneWorld ha llançat un fòrum de discussió on-line en anglès per debatre propostes que es presentaran en aquesta reunió.

05.05.2003 A Civil Society Bureau has been set up to ensure active participation and contribution of civil society organisations in the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) process and the summit itself. The bureau is the result of year-long intense discussions between the Civil Society Division of the WSIS Executive Secretariat and numerous representatives of civil society.

25.03.2003 The second meeting of the preparatory committee for the World Summit on the Information Society (PrepCom-2) concluded with two working documents for a draft declaration and action plan. The document focuses on ways to bridge the digital divide between developed and developing nations. The World Summit on the Information Society will be held in Geneva 10-12 December 2003 and in Tunis 16-18 November 2005.

03.03.2003 "During the year 2001, the Asia-Pacific region emerged as the largest telecommunication market in the world," asserts the Asia-Pacific Telecommunication Indicators 2002 report published by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) in November 2002.
