04.09.2006 Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) has awarded this year’s international press freedom award to Hayatullah Khan of Pakistan along with other journalists. An exception was made to honour Khan who had been abducted in December 2005 and whose body was found in June 2006.

05.06.2006 Police have shut down 87 FM radio stations which were operating illegally from religious seminaries and mosques in various districts of the NWFP, officials said on May 22. Law-enforcement officials said they had shut down the radio stations after conducting joint raids with representatives of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on seminaries and mosques.
