Gauteng province, controlled by the ruling African National Congress (ANC), in South Africa has decided to provide nevirapine to HIV positive pregnant mothers in public hospitals. This is contrary to the government's policy, and though two other provinces have already made the same decision, this is the first province that is controlled by the ANC.

Health programs in Central America, Sudan, and Bosnia have been used to launch ceasefires to permit humanitarian and medical assistance. These programs will be discussed Wednesday at a Congressional briefing by experts from the Global Health Council and others.
