16.02.2006 Simple, inexpensive and community based solutions are yielding big rewards in a country with the highest child and maternal mortality rates in the world. Programs that focus on local participation, education and integrated approaches to improving healthcare are giving people the tools needed to treat and prevent the biggest killers: malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia.

17.01.2006 While HIV/AIDS and malaria get the most attention, Sub-Saharan Africans are suffering the devastating affects of five so-called "diseases of poverty," even though affordable means of prevention are available. In fact, a collaborative study has designed an integrated program that could treat all five diseases at once for $0.92 per person.

06.12.2005 G. Karunanidhi reveals the emotions and trials of living with HIV in Tamil Nadu, India. Reflecting on his own search for support, he founded three "Positive Living Centers," which today serve 1,400 people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. The Centers also give Karunanidhi a reason to live.

29.11.2005 In many countries with high HIV rates, women do not have the power in sexual relationships to deny sex; in sub-Saharan Africa, for example, three-fourths of young people infected with HIV are women. As a result, methods of prevention controlled by women are crucial tools in the fight against HIV/AIDS.
