Internews Uzbekistan - Closed
13.10.2005 After ten years supporting independent media in the country, and ten minutes of deliberation by Tashkent's city court, Internews has been forced to close up shop. Following a maelstrom of popular uprisings in the region, Uzbek authorities have cracked-down on non-governmental organizations over the past 18 months.

11.10.2005 The inaugural Global Forum for Media Development addressed the issues facing media professionals and highlighted the role independent media plays in political and economic development. This year's event, in Amman, Jordan, drew over six hundred journalists and media experts from nearly 100 countries.
