25.05.2006 ACCION International recently received a grant of $5.8 million from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The four-year gift is the largest single donation received by ACCION in its 45-year history and will be used to extend ACCION’s microfinance programs for the poor in Africa and India.

ACCION International is among the 25 winners of the 2006 Fast Company/Monitor Group Social Capitalist Awards, marking the third consecutive year that ACCION has received the prestigious award. The program honors non-profits, or “social entrepreneurs,” across the nation who combine creativity and ingenuity with business solutions to address the most challenging social problems today, ranging from poor healthcare in developing nations to unequal education access, substance abuse, homelessness, unemployment and global poverty.

24.09.2005 ACCION International and Unitus, a microfinance accelerator acting as a social venture capitalist, have created the Unitus-ACCION Alliance for India. This strategic partnership is designed to catalyze the creation of a large-scale and profitable microfinance industry in India. The alliance has established as its goal the delivery of microfinance services to 15 million of India’s under-privileged within the next 10 years.
