ACCION International and Unitus, a microfinance accelerator acting as a social venture capitalist, have created the Unitus-ACCION Alliance for India. This strategic partnership is designed to catalyze the creation of a large-scale and profitable microfinance industry in India. The alliance has established as its goal the delivery of microfinance services to 15 million of India’s under-privileged within the next 10 years.

Actor Ron Livingston is famous for many roles: co-star of Office Space, a role on Sex and the City, and a lead in this summer’s Little Black Book. At ACCION, he’s played a leading part by designating his winnings on the World Poker Tour Hollywood Home Game to eliminate poverty. The show airs at 8pm on July 9th on the Travel Channel, and features a group of celebrities competing for a piece of the overall prize.

Recruited by the Colombian government to teach the ABCs of business to former paramilitary group members, ACCION International's staff had apprehensions about working closely with such an unpredictable group. As it turns out, the students had fears of their own--which, as the classes continued, grew into self-confidence and an awareness of their abilities.
