Canada's Minister for International Cooperation has released a policy statement aimed at boosting support for agriculture in developing countries. That will include raising investments in agricultural programming to reach $500-million a year by 2008. "With more than 1.2 billion people living in absolute poverty — mostly in rural areas — agriculture is critical to improving the lives of the poor in developing countries," said Minister Susan Whelan.
