Using ICT for Effective Disaster Management in the Pacific
Following its successful delivery of five regional events, “Using ICT for Effective Disaster Management Fora in Sri Lanka, Jamaica, Fiji, Tanzania and Mauritius”, the CTO plans to hold the next event in Samoa aimed at the Pacific region.
The Pacific forum will adopt the previous approach of two days of knowledge building in two sessions aimed at policy and regulation, and individual sessions aimed at the four stages of disasters - preparedness, mitigation, relief, recovery & reconstruction - followed by a half day interactive session where the Global Log Frame developed at the previous events will be updated and customised to the needs of the Pacific region.
This event is co-organised by the CTO and the Commonwealth Secretariat. The event will bring together a wide cross-section of stakeholders from the public sector, industry and civil society. It is a unique opportunity to exchange relevant information, network with similar interest groups and to reach out to wider stakeholder community.
For the industry this is an opportunity to showcase their products and services, while gaining a deeper understanding of the needs of the stakeholders. Innovative technologies supporting disaster management are particularly welcome to attend and exhibit their products and services.
The event will culminate with delegates assessing options, crafting and understanding their particular roles, and devising useful and practical strategies on how to optimise their performance in tackling all phases of disasters and understanding.
