Adobe project helps reduce essential government services time from days to minutes for millions of villagers in India.

This project is a collaboration between Adobe and the Panchayat Rural Housing and Rural Development Department, Government of Gujarat.

It aims to deliver transformational solutions to its citizens through Common Service Centers (CSCs) offering a range of services to villages including the electronic issue of certificates of birth, death, income, caste, domicile, property, residence proof, agriculture, tax collection, marriage, family information and land ownership.

The program empowers citizens through the ease, speed and security by which these documents are now electronically issued, managed and stored.

Adobe Systems Incorporated announced that over 18,000 Gram Panchayats across Gujarat have installed Adobe Acrobat for the electronic issue of vital citizen certificates and other official documents under the E-Gram project.

After an extensive review process by the Gujarat Government, Adobe’s Acrobat software was selected for the E-Gram project, and deployed across more than 18,000 CSCs, making this the largest Acrobat implementation in India to date.

Adobe also provided training (live sessions and video-on-demand) for most of the Village Computer Entrepreneurs to transition from the old, paper-based system to the digital era ushered in by the project.

The initiative of the Gujarat Government aims to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural Gujarat by providing citizens access to digital information for all government documentation.

At the grassroots level, the process has removed the waiting period for various certificates, documents and application forms to be issued from a few days or weeks to just a matter of few minutes.

It has also proved to be effective in the quick redressal of grievances that previously took a long time to resolve, by providing immediate access to necessary documents and information. In the future, this initiative will be expanded to also provide commercial services to the state’s rural communities.

Commenting on the initiative Umang Bedi, managing director, South Asia, Adobe said, “Adobe has worked with governments and communities around the world to address citizens’ needs for more accessible, responsive communications.

We believe the delivery of high-quality services to rural areas can help India produce more inclusive and balanced growth.

This initiative is a strong statement of our vision towards achieving that reality. We are very proud of our association with the Government of Gujarat towards making common services available for citizens of the state and helping bridge the digital divide. This program has been an excellent example of what can be achieved in other states as well.”

A K Rakesh, development commissioner, Government of Gujarat said, “We wanted to take governance to every level across the state. It was our aim through the E-Gram initiative to provide all the basic amenities that are available in big cities to villages across the state so that citizens do not feel the need to migrate to urban centers.

Earlier, citizens had to travel to the district Taluka for these requirements; today, citizens across these 18,000 villages can access these services at their gram panchayat. Life has become much simpler for them.”
