Doing business in Bhutan has been difficult because of lengthy and tedious licensing procedures. But it will not be anymore.

At least that is what Government to Business (G2B) e-portal, launched on Wednesday, promises – to lessen the time required to procure business licences.

G2B is an e-portal for business, a one-stop shop for licences and clearances required for starting business. The portal was developed with support from International Finance Corporation (IFC), the largest global development institution of World Bank Group. The e-portal is part of the government’s Accelerating Socio-economic Development project.

At the request of the Bhutan government, IFC conducted a comprehensive study on the inventory of 119 business licences issued by 29 agencies in the country. It identified compliance burden in terms of time and cost involved in getting a licence aimed at creating favourable and efficient start-up and operating environment for private sector growth by improving the business environment and legal framework.
