Community Radio Station to start in Gulbarga, Karnataka

Communities in Gulbarga will soon have their own radio platform with the Information and Broadcasting ministry clearing the set up of the country's 39th community radio station in the district.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India has approved a grant of Permission Agreement for establishing, maintaining and operating a Community Radio Station (CRS) with the Sharanbasaveshwar Vidya Vardhak Sangha, a Gulbarga based NGO.
The government took this decision after screening by a Screening Committee and after seeking requisite clearances from various Ministries.
As per
the agreement, the community radio station would be operational within
three months. With this, the number of CRS will increase to 39 in the country.
With a launch community radio station, the Ministry is
giving an opportunity to the local communities to express themselves,
share their views and particularly empower the women, youth and
marginalized groups to take part in local self governance and overall
socio-economic and cultural development of the area.
The Community Radio Station being established in Gulbarga will serve the communities in the region, particularly girls, women, farmers and students and empower them.
