The e-discussion provides a unique platform for the farmers to dwell on various issues including businesses, agriculture, tourism and pilgrimage.

Farmers from the disaster prone Himalayan regions have got a new platform to share their common issues about agriculture and ways to mitigate the destruction due to disaster. An e-discussion forum launched on the website, ‘Partnering for rural prosperity’ will enable farmers from the flood prone regions to gear up for the unforeseen challenges.

The launch of the website is a precursor to a one-day conference being held on August 29 in New Delhi. The conference will put the spotlight on how to rebuild Uttarakhand through a focus on farmers, small businesses, agriculture, tourism and pilgrimage. The meet is being organised by a clutch of Indian and international organisations.

With a vision to improve preparedness in the wake of disasters like the recent floods in Uttarakhand and to explore the possibilities of rural prosperity, OneWorld is organising a conference called Rebuilding Uttarakhand with Active Participation of all Stakeholders, for strengthening resilience among its people as well as sustaining its economy, culture and ecology. It is a second conference in the series on Partnering for Rural Prosperity.

The e-discussion, Partnering for Rural Prosperity: Rebuilding Uttarakhand with all Stakeholder’s will input into the forthcoming one-day conference. There are four themes under the e-discussion, Uttarakhand Floods: Lessons from the Disaster; Sustainable Agriculture: Exploring Possibilities for Rural Prosperity; Farm to Fork: Promoting Market Linkages with Value Chains and Evolving Leadership: Partnerships for Growth.

The first conference, held on May 17, 2013, in New Delhi, had focussed on a unique model for apple value chain developed with farmers by Garhwal-based NGO, Shri Jagadamba Samiti (SJS), which has successfully piloted a concept to build agri-business cold chain financed by Dutch family foundation Stichting Het Groene Woudt (SHGW), a social investor.

SJS, SHGW, Image Makers and OneWorld are once again organising the conference to put the spotlight on Uttarakhand through a focus on farmers, small businesses, agriculture, tourism and pilgrimage and building leadership among stakeholders.
