Indian Space Research Organisation has initiated a nation-wide collaborative project on tea area development and management in collaboration with Tea Board, under the Union Ministry of Industry and Commerce.

In the first phase, it would be implemented in West Bengal and Assam, according to the latest annual report of the Space Department.

“The scope of the project is to generate comprehensive geo-spatial database on natural resources of tea gardens, analysis and development of an information system for total management solutions of the tea industry”, it said.

Major work components of the project are to map the tea gardens and create an inventory of all the tea gardens, and generate the tea garden landuse map, ISRO said.
