A new website by India Water Portal aims to teach students and educators all about water and its sustainable use. This online space will also connect them with NGOs, research institutions and government for mutual learning and action.

India Water Portal has launched its latest offering - Schools Water Portal, an unique platform for teachers and educators, students and parents, principals and school management to share learning resources on water.

Water, as a theme spans almost all subjects in the curriculum- sciences, social sciences, geography, language and environmental education.

To make learning about water fun, the portal has used several colourful presentations , plays, debate topics, quizzes, poems and jingles all with water as the focal theme.

The new Teacher Section can be used by teachers to enliven the class, or ease an otherwise difficult topic.

Also the Student’s Page can make studying appealing. They can find or search information for project ideas, watch videos of student projects. The Principals Corner can be used for proactive school management interested in conducting a water audit or implementing a rainwater harvesting system in their schools.

The essence of The Schools Water Portal is ‘sharing’. A wide range of partners, including educators, research institutes, government and non-government bodies, writers and artists have contributed to the portal.

Earlier a small workshop was organised on January 31st, 2009 by the Portal and the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan to acquaint teachers with the functioning of the portal.

Model classes were conducted that included a power point presentation on Global Water Resources, the Mythological Story of Cauvery, a game of Dumb Charades, and a water quiz. Prof. R. Rajagopalan, prominent environmentalist, teacher and author gave the key note address.
