OneWorld Foundation and the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) came together to hold a two-day workshop to facilitate knowledge sharing between NGOs and research organisations, to ensure better knowledge learning and dissemination through the IDS platform.

“Now, we will get knowledge from across the world through research papers and success stories. We will try to implement those success stories in our region,” said Girishwar Mani, President of an NGO called Samajotthan that works for women empowerment and child health and nutrition. Mani was talking about a two-day knowledge workshop organised jointly by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS), United Kingdom, and OneWorld Foundation India (OWFI) in New Delhi on January 3-4, 2013.

The workshop, 'Mining IDS knowledge Services', aims at enabling research organisations and NGOs to use and take benefit of IDS knowledge sharing platforms for efficient content syndication. This time, it concentrated on sharing of thematic knowledge in the fields of agriculture, climate change, health and nutrition. OneWorld and IDS have been holding a series of workshops for organisations in India to enable them to make use of and share the large IDS Knowledge Services collection of research publications which are sourced from a diverse range.

Eldis and BRIDGE, two renowned knowledge services from the Institute of Development Studies, host a range of documents, resources and publications on development research, policy and practice. To enable other organisations to pick, use and share the info-knowledge available on these resources, IDS offers an Application Programming Interface (API) service.

Talking about the workshop, Vivek Nayan, Senior Manager, Technology Services & Solutions, OneWorld, said: “We have explained technology to the participants in the most simplistic form and the response has been exceptionally good. We are training the participants in being able to share, exchange and use the IDS' knowledge by installing their Application Programming Interface (API) service.”

The workshop also had OneWorld’s technical team discuss with the participants how they could upgrade their existing online presence and benefit from increased use of ICTs. The important aspects like the use of technology to market goods was explained to them.
